TheTown Council has decided to enter into a
Interlocal Agreement with Palouse for contracting Police Services
instead of hiring another Town Marshall for Garfield. This will
create a 3-man department servicing both towns. One will be on
duty in Palouse, and one on duty in Garfield. The 3rd person will
be used for rotation. All 3 officers will rotate through both
towns depending on shift schedules. We feel this will make for
better police service in both Palouse and Garfield. Garfield will
still maintain its code enforcement, meaning junk vehicles, barking
dogs, noise complaints, etc will still be enforced.
The Town of Garfield has received a Planning/Feasibility Grant for
building a new fire station/public safety building. This grant
will cover the cost of site selection, environmental survey, initial
planning and architecture.
The Town Council passed the Utility Tax Jan. 23rd at the following
rates: telephone 4%, electricity 4%, and water/sewer/garbage 6%.
The tax should show up on utility bills in May.
